Happy Monday 🌞

Looking back at the last few years, my life is totally different. I’m a toddler mom with a baby on the way. I went from being an individual contributor to being a manager and team lead. We’ve also moved, so I’m just physically in a new location. It’s been a lot of change, but I’ve enjoyed it all.

Throughout this time, one common theme has been that I have been constantly adjusting and refining the systems that support me in work and life. For example:

  • I used to do groceries sort of haphazardly, maybe making a list right in the grocery store parking lot. It led to often needing to run out and get a few extra things. Not a big deal when you’re on your own; a little bit more of a challenge with a baby and then a toddler to tow along. Now, I do weekly meal planning, and life is loads easier.
  • I was also new to doing performance reviews for others; I didn’t save notes the first time I wrote up performance reviews. Now, I have a whole system where I make small notes weekly so that writing performance reviews is a breeze. (Here’s the newsletter I wrote about performance reviews last year.)

Changing systems is also top-of-mind for me at the beginning of the year when I’m often setting up new systems to support my goals. All that to say, I’ve had a lot of time to learn about how to most easily change my systems so that they work for me.

I took some time this week to write down everything I’ve learned these last few years about changing my systems, and I’d love for you to read it and let me know what you think + if it feels accurate to your own experience from changing systems in your life.
