Happy Monday 🌞 As we kick off the year, I thought it would be useful to dive into two elements of my own goal-setting systems that have really helped me make real change in the last year. Hopefully, these can help you with any new routines or goals for 2024. They are:
On checking in more frequently I don’t think I can properly convey just how impactful it has been to do more frequent check-ins on my goals and the things I’m working towards. I went from maybe looking at my goals monthly and hoping I had made progress to knowing exactly what I’m doing every single day to make progress toward my goals. Guess which one has had better results for me? Scaling back to smaller actions The other idea that is useful here, is that these daily actions I’m talking about taking, I’ve scaled them back to be as small as possible so that it feels easier to do them daily than to do one big monthly push. For example, last year it was easier for me to journal one line every day than to spend the morning writing three full pages of stream of consciousness (Julia Cameron’s Morning Pages). Don’t get me wrong, I still adore morning pages, but they are not always possible for me to do every day. So the smallest possible action for journaling instead of writing one line a day.
